Gustav Klimt's The Kiss is one of the world's most famous works of art and the centerpiece of the Belvedere's collection. The renowned museum in Vienna has transformed it into an innovative NFT project: the most famous depiction of a pair of lovers is offered for sale in a limited number of digital copies.
A high-resolution digital copy was divided into a 100 x 100 grid, resulting in 10,000 unique individual pieces offered as NFTs. The Kiss NFTs can be purchased at a unit price of 1,850 €. Buyers can complete the transaction using either the Ethereum cryptocurrency, a credit card, SEPA, or PayPal. Each segment of the work is assigned at random. The issued NFT certificates show precisely which part of the high-resolution image was purchased.
In addition to buying the NFT, buyers can register as owners of their piece on the platform thekiss.art, where the picture can be viewed in its entirety. An individual dedication of love may be added to the NFT via the thekiss.art platform. These dedications are displayed on the platform. The NFTs can be resold on any commercially available NFT sales platform.
